False Bay Sailing Club

The False Bay Yacht Club was founded in 1958 and moved into its present clubhouse in 1984.

The club is situated centrally in the historical naval village of Simon's Town. Originally proclaimed in 1741 by the Governor of the Cape as the preferred winter anchorage for visiting ships, Simon’s Town, in the South Western Corner of False Bay offers fantastic year round sailing.

Visitors are most welcome and yachts up to 22M (±20 Tons) can be accommodated on either swing moorings or the walk-on marinas.

Hermanus Yacht Club

The Hermanus Yacht Club on the Kleinriver lagoon, locally known as Stofvlei, is superbly situated and has an enthusiastic membership taking part in fun or competition sailing almost every weekend during the summer season. Several major regattas are held every year. The Hermanus sailing season starts in September.

Nestled in the lee of the Overberg Mountains, Hermanus Yacht Club's green lawns reach right down to the water's edge. The salt water lagoon provides safe sailing for children and variable wind conditions that can raise the heart-rate of even the most experienced sailors.

The club has a special family ambience, with caravan and camping sites plus wooden cabins providing the perfect weekend getaway and summer holiday venue ... creating quality time together.

The Dinghy fleet consists of Lasers, Sonnets, Dabchicks and Optimists. Children are taught to sail in club owned Optimist Dinghies through a special sailing training programme and as they progress they can be coached to sharpen their racing skills and compete on a club, provincial and national level. In recent years some of our young sailors have participated in the Optimist World Championships.

There is a large Catamaran fleet, consisting of mainly Hobie Cats.

The Carioca keelboat fleet provides excellent sailing and entertainment for sailors who like to stay dry and perhaps sip a gin and tonic or two whilst at the helm. Racing for both dinghies and keelboats is arranged most weekends in season and throughout holiday periods.

When the sun sets over the lagoon, braai fires are lit and sailing stories regaled in fine company. Adults can relax in the knowledge that children are close by entertaining themselves in and around the Club House and front lawn.

Imperial Yacht Club

Imperial Yacht Club presently has about 125 members with a total of approximately 80 boats. The main classes racing are Lasers, Sonnets and Xtras for the seniors, and Optimists and Dabchicks for the juniors, although any class of boat is welcome to join in the racing. There are a number of training intiatives for juniors and adults. Contact admin@imperialyachtclub.co.za for more information.

Racing is held every Sunday from late August to early September, when the club re-opens after the off-season, and continues until late May when we have our Closing Cruise and Annual Prize Giving and AGM. Visit www.imperialyachtclub.co.za for more info and latest news.

Milnerton Aquatic Club

Milnerton Aquatic Club, known as MAC founded in 1976, is situated on the banks of the Rietvlei Nature Reserve with Table Mountain as his backdrop. The Rietvlei Reserve is a haven for bird life and has a walking trail for people to enjoy the tranquillity of the outdoors.

Because of its location, ideal wind and water conditions, MAC has become a very popular destination for the overseas water sports enthusiasts who spend between 3 ñ 6 months of the year using our ideal waters.

MAC has a membership of around 600 with three divisions, namely power, sailing and board sailing. A recent addition to the sailing section has been that of the Cape Radio Yacht Club and its members with their model remote controlled sailing boats who enjoy the perfect water conditions that MAC has to offer.

Members can enjoy the facilities of the club's galley and the "Wet Start" Bar which offers exquisite views of the water and Table Mountain. The moment the sun goes down, members can enjoy the sunset while having a braai or simply enjoy a sundowner after a day on the water. MAC also has a large swimming pool, a toddler's pool, a small play park for its members.

A dedicated and professional management team head up the club management committee, which ensures the smooth running of the club on behalf of all its loyal members. Whatever you choose to do, or not to do at MAC you can enjoy a fun filled carefree day exactly as you wish, whether it is on or off the water.

Vogelvlei Yacht Club

VYC is in a secret location in the Western Cape not far from Cape Town. The dam is man made, is a drinking water supply, is a reserve and as a result motor boats are forbidden. However sailing boats are allowed and that is what this club is about. Passionate sailors of dingies and cat's gather here regularly to race or just to enjoy sailing in the unspoiled, stunningly beautiful surrounding environment.

Zeekoevlei Yacht Club

Early in 1932 a general meeting was held with the idea of forming a proper club. The club grew in strength and soon there was a fleet of about 20 boats ranging from canvas sailing canoes to a few scows and then Redwings came in numbers from Table Bay. Elkan Green brought in an Uffa Fox International dinghy and plans for the Sharpie, of which there was soon a big fleet.

By 1954 membership and boat ownership had increased to such an extent that an adjoining property knows as “Skipper’s” was acquired for a junior clubhouse, boat parking and an unofficial pub. The main classes at that time were the Flying Dutchmen, Sharpie, Goodricke, Finn, Sprog, Andy and Dabchick. Dinghy sailing was at its peak in the 1960’s and early 70’s. The very successful training and racing boat for juniors, the Optimist, was introduced in 1971.

In 1991 Bishops and S.A.C.S. rowing clubs joining forces with ZVYC and built sheds to house their boats. In the same year the Western Cape Radio Sailing Club was incorporated in ZVYC.
